Doug Hirano has been the Executive Director of Asian Pacific Community in Action since July 2006. Prior to accepting this position, he served as the Vice President for Program Development at Mountain Park Health Center for five years. In this capacity, he established community partnerships, developed grant proposals, and coordinated grant funded programs.
By training, Doug is an epidemiologist. He has a master’s degree in public health from UCLA. After completing graduate school, he worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, serving in field assignments in New Orleans and Jefferson City, Missouri. In 1987, he began work for the Arizona Department of Health Services and served in various managerial and administrative capacities for 14 years. Areas of work included HIV/AIDS, primary health care, and border health. Doug was instrumental in establishing a statewide medicine-public health coalition, which eventually led to the receipt of a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Turning Point project award for Arizona. Working at a community level, he maintains an interest in leveraging and capitalizing on broad-based partnerships to improve the health of communities.
Doug is married to Rosalie and resides in Tempe. He spends his free time training for long distance running events and chasing his two children, Noah and Olivia.
